Meet the Host: D. Scott Smith – Bringing Waco’s Stories to Life

D. Scott Smith, MBA, is not only the voice behind The WACO Experience: An American Story but a dedicated community builder with a lifetime of experience in connecting people and ideas. With a background in business, education, and an extensive career working with the startup community, D. Scott knows that a strong community is woven from diverse perspectives and shared ambitions. His unique role brings together leaders from business, government, and non-profit sectors to engage in the kind of conversations that inspire and elevate.

As a seasoned radio host and Motivational Listener, D. Scott takes every guest on a conversational journey, skillfully exploring their insights, experiences, and motivations. By asking the right questions, he brings out the depth of each story, helping listeners understand not only what drives Waco’s leaders but how their values shape the community’s fabric. He’s not just telling stories—he’s capturing the spirit of Waco and its people, fostering a sense of pride and connection in every episode.

D. Scott’s approach to storytelling is rooted in an understanding of human nature and a commitment to authenticity. He is and has been a board member in non-profit and for-profit organizations. Currently serving as a board member for Extra Mile Media (KWIL & KHPE - https://www.hope1079.com/), vice president for UPLIFT Leadership (upliftleadership.org) , co-founder and executive director for Edvocation (edvocation.org).

Growing up with a love for broadcasting, he developed skills as a jazz DJ at Oregon State University’s KBVR radio station and has since honed a gift for guiding conversations that reveal the unique motivations and values of each person he meets. For D. Scott, The WACO Experience is more than a show; it’s a chance to honor and uplift the community he calls home. His passion and his dedication to meaningful dialogue make him an ideal ambassador of Waco’s spirit, drawing out the values that make this city an extraordinary place to live and work.
